<image:title>Resources - The Digestion and Stress Connection</image:title>
<image:caption>Approximately 600 million years ago, early multicellular organisms (Hydra’s) consisted primarily of a digestive tube surrounded by a nerve net. This early nervous system could be considered the first brain, as it’s duty was to regulate the movement of food and extraction of nutrients. As evolution progressed this “gut” was largely preserved during the development of a second brain (the brain/central nervous system we currently recognize). Signaling molecules developed in this first brain, were incorporated in the new brain creating the communication between the “mind-gut” that exists in both the animals and humans of today. <image:title>Resources - Fiber and Digestive Health</image:title>
<image:caption>Fiber is what creates the internal structure of all plant based foods. When it’s consumed in a diet, this same fibrous structure shapes the consistency of stool, and regulates the speed at which it moves through the digestive tract. This is because fiber can not be broken down or absorbed, instead it passes through the body undigested, both improving bowel movements and maintaining bowel health. When some types of fiber in stool reach the large intestine it increases the growth and diversity of beneficial bacteria. Feeding the beneficial or “good” bacteria helps to keep the positive balance in the microbiome we all seek.</image:caption>

<image:title>Resources - Vitamin D’s role in Digestion & Stress</image:title>
<image:caption>When sunlight hits the skin, a chemical reaction occurs creating Vitamin D3 which is carried internally to the liver and then the kidneys to become its usable form of Vitamin D. This same process takes place with animals and plants raised in sunlight, and is the reason that “Wild, Grass Fed, and Pastured” products have higher levels of Vitamin D, and overall nutritional value. There are two forms of the Vitamin; D3 is found in animal foods, and D2 is found in plant foods. Both have benefits, but some research shows that D3 is the preferred source due to its ability to raise blood concentrations of the vitamin higher, and longer than D2. They are both available in food, and supplemental sources.</image:caption>

<image:title>Resources - Wellness does not equal Health</image:title>
<image:caption>In my opinion, wellness has actually become an unobtainable concept that brings more problems than it prevents. It introduces a notion that if one isn’t taking the time to buy certain types of products, eat certain types of foods, and implement certain types of lifestyle activities, one most likely isn’t reaching their wellness potential. And sadly this style of belief tends to set one up for an unceasing list of goals that don’t necessarily provide the health benefits that were originally intended.</image:caption>

<image:title>Resources - SIBO Pregnancy, and how to get through it</image:title>
<image:caption>This is an important question with a very simple and reassuring answer: No, your baby will not inherit your SIBO. This is because the bacteria and/or archaea causing the issues in your small intestine are not inherently bad. They are a part of your widely diverse microbiome and have traveled to and populated a location in your digestive tract where they don't belong. So regardless of how the baby is born, the bacteria that is passed onto them through the birth canal and/or breastmilk is their first introduction to their mother's microbiome. And that bacteria is not causing problems; it’s doing important work helping build their brain functions, immune, and digestive systems.</image:caption>
